Frank Maldonado

 UT Baseball Lessons Director

Frank Maldonado is in his third season as assistant coach at The University of Tampa and has served nine years as a coach at UT, California Lutheran University and Barstow Community College. Maldonado has been instrumental in the success and development of the student-athletes and the baseball programs, helping the Spartans to a pair of NCAA II national championships as a chief hitting instructor.

As a college coach, his responsibilities have included coordinating recruiting, hitting, base-running and infield instructor while also serving as a summer camp coordinator. As the hitting coach at the University of Tampa, the Spartans set school records for batting average, home runs, runs, hits, RBI, doubles and slugging percentage.

While at Tampa, he helped the squad to a first-place ranking in the Sunshine State Conference and was among the top five nationally in every offensive category for the past two seasons. As a result of his offensive tutelage, four Spartan hitters have been named All-Americans, three of them on the first-team.  The offensive success was instrumental in leading the program to back to back NCAA national championships in 2006 and 2007.

While working as the hitting and infield coach at California Lutheran University, Kingsmen hitters and infielders topped the Southern California Intercollegiate Conference in fielding and hitting each year.  In addition, CLU led the nation in scoring in 2001 and finished fifth nationally in double plays in 2004.

As a recruiter, Maldonado has worked tirelessly to attract some of the best athletes and brightest students. In addition to on-field success, he has seen 93 percent of his student athletes graduate as well as 20 of them selected in the major league baseball draft.

During the summer of 2007, he served as an assistant coach for the Oahu Paddlers of the Hawaii Collegiate League and also was the head coach for the Kehl Mosqiutos of the German Baseball Federation during the summer of 1999. His summer coaching experiences have also included guiding two U.S.A Development teams in Puerto Rico and Australia.
